Using Prilosec against Acid Reflux

Acid reflux causes a lot of unnecessary discomfort and even pain for sufferers so it is no wonder that cures and remedies are constantly being sought. Prilosec is one of the most popular tools to fight against acid reflux. Acid reflux can be overcome by the use of Prilosec as it is a proton pump inhibitor that effectively shuts down acid production in the stomach, reducing the chances that acid could be refluxed back through the esophagus. Prilosec is best used during the day when taken before meals as it works when it is generally needed most. It is not designed for night time use so sufferers of acid reflux must use another method for relief in conjunction with Prilosec.

The choice to use Prilosec when suffering from acid reflux can entirely depend on the level of suffering that occurs. Many people may not be willing to use more than one method of relieving acid reflux, but for those who suffer from acid reflux after meals, Prilosec could be the most effective choice. Regular users of Prilosec often claim that their acid reflux symptoms were significantly decreased.

Debate on the Use of Prilosec against Acid Reflux

There is an ongoing debate on the effects of inhibitors like Prilosec against acid reflux and natural processes in the body. Although the manufacturers of Prilosec proclaim it to be the number one cure for acid reflux, some critics are not so convinced. In fact, many of these go so far as to say that Prilosec could possibly cause some adverse effects on the internal systems of the body. Those who advocate natural cures for acid reflux often advise against the use of Prilosec and similar prescription drugs.

The theory behind the criticism is that drugs such as Prilosec reduce the natural amounts of acid in the stomach which can negatively affect the body’s ability to properly digest food. This is thought to reduce defense mechanisms in the body and even increase the chances for food poisoning not to mention the fact that poor digestion can lead to further problems and diseases. But users of Prilosec claim doctors would not prescribe this drug to patients if it was really dangerous. It is important to discuss fully the possible advantages and disadvantages of using Prilosec against acid reflux with a professional before deciding on which course of treatment to take. Being fully aware of the possible effects ensure that you are prepared for the consequences.
